Hey there! I’m Laura, a passionate communications strategist committed to amplifying social change initiatives.

I’m from Bogotá, Colombia and grew up surrounded by the majestic Andes mountains and the vibrant streets of the capital. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to travel across Colombia, visiting towns most affected by conflict, to document peace initiatives and insights from environmental and community leaders. This experience taught me that resilience stems from a profound love for land and life, and that trust is essential in any effort to create change. Since then, I’ve been dedicated to supporting initiatives that dismantle oppressive systems and build inclusive, equitable ones, from ending immigration detention in California to supporting women POC small business owners.

My work ethic is grounded in honesty, attentive listening, and a profound love for life. I embrace the full spectrum of emotions—from rage to joy—as essential to the pursuit of collective liberation and safety.

With over eight years of experience in journalism, six years leading communication campaigns in the nonprofit sector, and a Master's in Communication for Development and Social Change, I specialize in crafting communication strategies that seamlessly blend digital impact with in-person actions. I thrive on developing innovative strategies that not only inform but also inspire people to take action and feel empowered to contribute to meaningful change.

I decided to start Grip on Comms to share the knowledge I’ve learned from my professional, personal and academic experience, and to learn from others who are doing the needed and hard work of bringing positive change in the world.

Let's work together to create a world where every voice is heard and every person is valued. I look forward to hearing from you!
